Evaluation

In the following post I will evaluate my work from the past 3 years of my Fashion Management degree.

When I entered first year i had never used Photoshop before. The process to learn was slow and it took a long time before i could understand it properly. We learned basic techniques and our first assignment was not complicated.

Below are examples of my work from first year.

By examining the above work from first year, it is clear that my drawing skills were good but they have improved since.

In second year we studied and drew both women's and men's clothing and illustrated them in CAD. Below i will show examples of work from both assignments.

Above is examples of the men's wear assignment that was completed using Photoshop and Corel Draw.

Above are examples of designs i created in  the women's wear assignment.
When looking back at my second year work, i can see an improvement from the previous year. My drawings are more detailed and i am more aware of all the different effects that are available to add to my drawings on Photoshop and Corel Draw.

This final year assignment is based around a Blog. Firstly i had to choose two fashion illustrators, i studied both of them and did a break down of their techniques. I studied two images from both illustrators and did a break down to discover the styles of drawing they use. From this i puck one illustration from each and combined them to create my final illustartion using CAD.  Below is my final illustration.

Overall in the past three years i have enjoyed learning about Photoshop and Corel Draw. I feel i have learned a lot and i am very happy with the progress i have made. I  can see the progress i have made when i look back at the above drawings its clear that i have learned different skills that enables me to make drawings realistic and life like.

David Downton - Illustration and my interpretation

                                               Original Illustration by David Downton

The original drawing by David Downton is very realistic and great detail can be seen on the face and hair. Yellow is used as the background colour and for the dress, which makes it very simple buy eye catching.  The garment on the illustration is simple with a black ink outline which makes it stand out, the dress is quite large and really takes over the illustration.

Pencil drawing and breakdown of David Downton's Illustration
I did a breakdown of the face firstly to identify the proportions. Then,  I re drew the hair and facial features trying to get it as close to the original image as possible.

This is where I drew the full body and added in any details that were on the original image.

Screen Prints of the step by step stages on Photoshop of my recreation of David Downton's illustration.

The final image, my interpretation using Photoshop and Coral Draw.

Miminne - illustration and my interpretation

                           Original illustration by Miminne

This is the original illustration by Miminne, for the purpose of this assignment I will recreate the left image. Bold colours were used in this image, Black Red and white are three colours that complement each other well. The design of the garments are very simple yet detailed. Using water colours to add simple lines makes  this illustration very unique.

Pencil drawing of Miminne's illustration
This is where I traced around the original image. I also re drew the eyes, nose and mouth on a large scale so all details could be broken down  properly. When the illustration was broken down,  it showed how simple the drawing is but when combined together it all worked, which makes it a great illustration!!

Illustration - using watercolour paints
After the illustration was copied on layout paper, it was drew onto paper, I then painted it in with water colour paint using the appropriate colours.

Illustrator Techniques

David Downton
After studying and de constructing various pieces of work by David Downton, it is clear he uses mainly water colour in his work. another method that is commonly seen is the use of black ink which is seen on its own and mixed with water colour.
David Downton's images are very detailed and realistic with facial features very structured and have a 'fashion' feel to them.

Miminne
By de constructing work by Miminne, its clear she uses a mixture of mediums. These include water colour, pens and ink. Again her images can be very realistic, yet very spontaneous and adventurous.

Examples of David Downtons Work

My breakdown and interpretation of David Downtons creation.
Apart from the black background, watercolours were mainly uses for this  picture.

Below is where I copied areas of the illustration and drew them in pencil to get an idea of who David Downton draws.

This is where I practised shapes from the illustration using water colours.

This is my attempt of the illustration by David Downton. I used water colours and also Photoshop to put the finishing touches to the image.
